Description
This is one of the maze of neighborhood social trails that have been officially signed. It is a popular connector for hikers, runners, dog walkers, and cyclists to access the neighborhood trail system.
This area was the site of a Wildland fuels reduction project. Prior to 2013, this was an impenetrable stand of unhealthy lodgepole and white fir (so dense you could not see 50' into it). This was a direct result of prior clearcutting in the Tahoe basin that resulted in super dense, unhealthy stands of non-diverse trees. he USFS and has been doing major fuels reduction projects in the neighborhood for years and drastically thinning the areas. While it looks a bit chundered due to the recent logging operations, the area is recovering quickly. In a few years this will be a much healthier mix of wildflowers, trees of different species and ages, brush and wildflowers.
There are a ton of well-used, unsigned, well-maintained social trails here. It's easy to do runs and hikes from 2-15+ miles in the neighborhood. If you get "lost," head toward the lake, and you'll dump into the neighborhood.
