From the junction of the Rick's Canyon Trail, the Steel Hollow Trail ascends into the mouth of Steel Hollow. From here you can see some fantastic evidence of the erosion that has occurred in this canyon as it has cut through layers of bedrock to form its mouth. As you continue ascending you'll enter a section that is wooded on your right side, but almost barren on the left side with intermittent sharp rock formations.

As you continue up the trail it can start to become overgrown late in the season, but it never gets too bad as there is a decent amount of traffic up this trail. Although it is a short trail, there are some really great rock formations and flowers to see on your way up. Once at the top, the trail meets up with the Long Hollow Road where you can see forests and meadows in all directions.

Deer, various wildflowers, and several kinds of berries can be found along this route
