Runner Notes

The descent along the falls is particularly steep. I would not recommend running this.

Description

Marked by signs and red blazes, the Awosting Falls Carriageway starts at the Lower Awosting parking area within Minnewaska Park and runs to the intersection with Lyons Road.

Facing 44/55, the trail starts on the right and heads east. It runs on the south side of Peters Kill. Follow the red blazes along the river until you reach the top of the falls. From here, the trail veers right and descends to the base of the falls (swimming is prohibited). From here the trail continues along Peters Kill, at times running very close to 44/55 (traffic noise can be a detractor).

It eventually turns away from the road and climbs a slope of slab rock and pitch pine to Lyons Road. This is the boundary between Minenwaska and Mohonk. The trail continues across the road as Trapps Road. Note a day pass to Mohonk Preserve is required to use this trail.
