Need to Know

Just before the halfway mark, trail users have to cross the Lewis Fork stream. If the water is high, follow the high water signs that direct hikers to cross using the road (be careful of vehicles). You're likely to see horseback riders on this trail.

Description

The Fairwood Valley trail connects the AT to the Mount Rodgers Trail trailhead parking lot. The trail begins at the AT next to Route 603 and generally runs parallel to the road. Continue through the woods, cross a meadow, and hike moderate inclines before reaching the Mount Rodgers Trail parking lot. This trail provides a connection for backpackers looking to create a loop around Mount Rogers/Grayson Highlands using the AT: Mt. Rogers Appalachian Trail Club (VA) and the Mount Rodgers Trail.
