Need to Know
This is a steep ridge trail where weather can be very different from at the base. Be prepared for stronger wind gusts and possible dense fog making trail finding more difficult. Always hike with appropriate bear protection.
Description
This ridge route is marked with rock cairns and has extraordinary views of Prince William Sound, Eyak Lake, the Copper River Delta, and the surrounding Chugach Mountains. Approximately halfway along the ridge (4 miles if coming from Power Creek), a small shelter (amenities not included) is available for day-use or overnight camping on a first-come-first-serve basis. There is excellent berry picking along the loop as well as good possibilities of viewing bears and mountain goats. Be aware of dense fog that can obscure the trail. Being comfortable with wayfinding is an advantage on this trail. The entire loop from Crater Lake trailhead to Power Creek trailhead is 12 miles. (Approximate 10-12 hours).
