Description

The Lower Sonoran Trail has been added recently to the Fountain Hills McDowell Mountain Preserve. It creates a four mile loop with the Sonoran Trail. This loop has no direct access so needs to be connected to other trails from either the Adero Canyon or Golden Eagle trailheads.

It traverses a series of ridges and washes at a relatively constant gradient and generally remains fairly close to the houses in the Eagles Nest community that borders the Preserve. There are expansive views from the Superstitions to the south, Four Peaks to the east and the Mazatzals to north at all points along the trail.

Flora & Fauna

Typical desert environment.
