***Starting in fall the trailheads are still open but there is no overnight parking in Tuolumne Meadows***
You must have someone drop you off at the trailhead and either hike down into Yosemite Valley or get picked up at the end of your trip.

Overview

Awesome hike through the heart of Yosemite's Cathedral Range. See some of the most spectacular views in Yosemite's high country with long stretches of flat with short, intense uphills.

Need to Know

You must obtain a wilderness permit prior to backpacking anywhere in Yosemite. Quotas are in effect from May through October and can be reserved prior to your date for $5 per permit + $5 per person.

Description

Park at the Tuolumme Meadows Wilderness Permit Station and head left towards the Lyell Canyon Trailhead. Continue straight along the JMT/PCT towards Lyell Canyon. Turn right on the Ireland Creek junction, where the trail begins to climb upward through the forest to the top of the ridge. There is plenty of camping towards the top of the ridge but limited access to water. Continue along Ireland Creek towards Voglesang Lake and you'll eventually reach the Voglesang High Sierra Camp. Hang a right down Rafferty Creek until it meets back up with Lyell Canyon. Finish right back where you started!
