Description

Follow the trail from the parking lot through the woods and fields for about 0.25 miles. At this point, head right (east) and follow it as it passes just above the beach along the Long Island Sound. There are several places where you can jump down off the short bluff and onto the beach itself to get near the water. You could also run along the beach all the way to the point.

The trail will eventually end at a dirt road a little over 0.5 miles from the start, and you can follow the road to the east until you reach its end at a large pile of rocks (the remnants of a power house that supplied power to Plum Island via cables running under the water). You can scramble down the other side of the big rock pile and onto the beach at Orient Point. Depending on how high the tide is, you can run out a ways on the beach to get a better view of the Orient Point Lighthouse.

Flora & Fauna

Water and shore birds, deer, and potentially seals (in winter only) if you are lucky.
