Overview

This run, which is part of the Dolomites Alta Via 1, takes you from civilization over the pass at Forcella Sora Forno to Rifugio Fedara Vedla, where you can spend the night.

Need to Know

Accommodation at Rifugio Fodara Vedla can be booked on this website.

Description

The trail is generally well marked. Start out from the parking lot in front of Hotel Lago di Braies on Trail 1. (Be aware that multi-day parking at the parking lot with surveillance is pretty costly, and should be paid at the hotel reception to get day rates instead of hour rates—the latter being ridiculously expensive.)

Follow the western lake shore to the bottom of the lake, where you start the ascent to Forcella Sora Forno at 2,388 m. Catch your breath while admiring a beautiful view back towards Lago di Braies, and down on to Rifugio Biella, where you'll head next and where it is recommended to stop in for a beer or a cup of coffee.

This was the "worst" part of this run, and from Biella, you'll take more gentle paths over boulder-strewn plains and along minor gravel roads (Trail 6, Trail 6A and Trail 7), past Rifugio Sénes (where additional refreshments are available) until reaching Rifugio Fodara Vedla.
