“H Island is located in the Beagle Channel and is home to nesting rock cormorants.”
— John Maurizi
Accessible by boat only. Tours must be booked in advance through Tres Marias
Features: Birding — Views — Wildlife
Dogs: No Dogs
Not ideal for running.
H Island is only accessible through a tour with Tres Marias based in Ushuaia. You should arrange your tour the day before you want to go. You have two options to get to the island either by motorboat or sailboat. I've done this trip twice and each time went with the sailboat. On the way to H Island, they will sail past an island with sea lions. Once at H Island, there is a bit of a climb up some rock right off the boat. There is no dock.
There is several different routes on the island the guide can take you. This is dependent on the nesting rock cormorants and how windy conditions are on the island. The run can range between 1 mile and 1.5 mile depending on the route you take.
Flora & Fauna
This is a great island for birding. Also look for the Calafate Berry. Legend states if you eat a Calafate Berry you are sure to return to Ushuaia.
