Features: Birding — Lake — River/Creek
Mostly good even trail with some awkward creek crossings and sloppy, wet spots
Once you're in the parking lot by the POW camp, head towards the east dammed-side of the lake. Make your way across the dam and take the trail to the right. After only a quarter of a mile, you come to the creek turn left on the trail.
Continue along the creek through dense forest that only allows glimpses of the creek even though you are never far from it. The creek itself features dark tannin-rich waters flowing over white sands.
After a couple of miles, you enter a section of open, cultivated pine forest. This lasts another mile until you reenter thicker forest.
This continues on until you are at 3.75 miles. When the forest opens up again stay left to avoid arriving at Forestry Road 440 too early. Continue staying left you come upon a small pond where you must stay right and after a short while you arrive at Forestry Road 440 and the end of this section.
