Practice Leave No Trace (LNT) backcountry skills and ethics. Camp 100 feet from fragile areas; bury human waste at least 200 feet from water, trails, and campsites. This trail is usually closed by snow between November and May.

Description

This short connector trail—steep and faint in places—links Forest Road 6540-700 with the Buck Canyon Trail #1046. It provides a way to shorten access to, or form a loop with, Buck Canyon Trail #1046. Bear Camp and Bear Camp Spring are located 0.5 miles up this trail from the forest road.

Note: Some maps show the #1044 crossing Forest Road 6540-700 and continuing on downhill to a junction with the Muir Creek Trail #1042. While the part of this trail between Forest Road 6540-900 and the Muir Creek Trail #1042 can still be followed, the section between Forest Road 6540-700 and Forest Road 6540-900 has now been replaced by Foster Creek OHV (Off-highway Vehicle) Trail #27. You can use the #27 to complete a loop if you remember that OHV traffic is allowed on it between July and November.
