A 12-mile route through Golden Gate State Park as part of the Dirty30 race in early June.

Features -none-

Overview

This is a 12-mile version of the Dirty30 race full of many of the challenges of the full 50k, just shorter. The highlight is panoramic views on the top of Windy Peak.

Need to Know

There is a lot of creek water available along the course for filtering. Entrance fees to the park apply. Your feet may get wet, especially if you do this in May or June.

Description

This route uses a variety of trails in the state park with a summit of Windy Peak. You'll start out on a short section of dirt road from the Red Barn picnic area. From there, you'll follow the Mountain Lion up to the top of the first big climb and around to Forgotten Valley. You'll stay left and follow a short section of service road until you turn left onto Burro Trail around mile 5.5.

Around mile 5.9, you'll turn left to stay on the Burro Trail and climb up to about mile 7.3. There you'll swing left to do an out-and-back summit of Windy Peak. Heading back down, you'll stay left around mile 8.6 to go down the other side of the Burro Trail. You'll end up back on a section of the Burro Trail that you did previously for a short climb back to the main outside loop. At the top of the hill, you'll turn left to follow Mountain Lion back to the Red Barn.
