Description

Perkins Knob Trail is mostly doubletrack with a few singletrack sections. It's seldom traveled, but offers good access to other trails in the area. It begins off Hwy 21, about 0.5 miles south of Iron Mountain Trail #301: US 21 to Divide Trail (IMT), and Highway 21 intersection.

The first mile follows Perkins Creek through the valley floor where there are more than a dozen creek crossings, the last of which is at mile 1.3. At this point, the trail ascends up from the valley floor towards IMT. There are steep, but non-technical sections.

At mile two, there is a clearing with an intersection. The Perkins Knob Trail continues to the left towards IMT. To the right, the Perkins Knob Spur Trail continues upward 0.5 mile to the summit of Perkins Knob. The view from the summit is fairly obscured, except in winter. From the intersection of Perkins Knob Trail and IMT, Dry Run Gap #4613 is 3.6 miles to the left, the Divide Trail #309 is 0.3 miles to the right. Both are good options, or you can always turn back the way you came.
