I asked locals for best hikes with some good distance. They recommended this one, and they were dead on!
This hike included that and great views as well, probably some of the best in the area. I started along the Tahoe Rim Trail
(TRT) toward Castle Rock, and stopped for photos on top of Castle Rock. It's not clear, but you have to go around to the west face of Castle Rock to get on top.
I then followed the TRT further south, and picked up the loop trail that is east of Kingsbury Village. Seemed to be well marked, and easy enough to follow with the Hiking Project app. Stay on singletrack, and don't follow washouts or service roads.
Heads up: The return look is essentially all uphill. So take some snacks in addition to plenty of water. I rested and took pictures a lot, total time for me was about 4 hours.
