“A challenging climb with some rewarding views.”
— Swire Ho
Lots of rocks and roots so a sturdy trail shoe is a must.
Look for free street parking in front of Lizzie's Trail Inn and The Richardson House. Mt. Wilson Trail starts about 50 yards north of Mira Monte Ave.
The first mile of the trail is on a sandy singletrack with no shade, and the next few miles are in the woods. While catching your breath after the climb, don't forget to look back to see the view of Pasadena; on a good day you can see all the way to the ocean.
Once into the wooded section of the trail, the track becomes narrow. Look out for roots and loose rocks. There was a running water section but with the drought there isn't much water left.
Around mile 4 there will be a junction, continue on the trail to the right, this is the most difficult part of trail, be prepare to use both hands and feet. At the mile 5 marker, continue on the Mt. Wilson Trail going north (up). The trail ends at a fire road around 5.5 miles.
