An abandoned fire road between Mt. Lukens Truck Trail #3N27 and the Angeles Crest Hwy.

Overview

Description

Grizzly Flat Rd. drops from Mt. Lukens Truck Trail #3N27 all the way to Grizzly Flats, a remote, rarely-used trail camp on the Big Tujunga side of Mt. Lukens. From there, the Grizzly Flats Trail continues down into Big Tujunga Creek. The portion of this road between the intersection with Hoyt Mountain Road and Grizzly Flats is rarely used.

A remote fire access road, Grizzly Flats Rd. cuts a wide bench in the steep flank of Mt. Lukens. The trail you'll follow is a winding route littered with cinderblock-like boulders, downed trees, and the occasional landslide. Overgrowth can make the trail quite narrow at times. The shadier contours of the mountain have tall pine trees, while the sunnier and lower sections are a similar chaparral to what you might find way down in Arroyo Seco.
