Update

A simple run with nice views and some tough sand spots.

Chris Carter

Overview

The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset.
This is an easy and flat run on color-coded multi-use trails. Conditions can be very dry and there are sections of sugar sand to watch out for. Don't expect any features or challenging terrain, but overall this is a nice area to explore and enjoy the scenery.

Need to Know

  • There is a self-issue entrance fee of $3 per car
  • Although the park is open daily, the Education Center is closed on Wednesdays and this might be an interesting stop for kids.

Description

This run starts up by the Education Center. There is a road located west of the Education Center that takes you up to the canoe launching point. Run up this road and then join the White Trail as it heads north. For the most part, the trail is basically a road covered with pine straw or grass that is matted down pretty well. There are are also few sections of sugar sand.

Keep heading past the southern end of the Red Trail unless you want to mix things up. Otherwise, continue until the intersection with the Blue Trail. Turn left for a fairly casual stretch until it reaches the White Trail again. Turn around here, unless you want to deal with a section of difficult sugar sand on this section of the White Trail. Backtrack to the previous intersection and start heading south on the White Trail.

At the north end of the Yellow Trail, turn left to enjoy an easy and obstacle-free trail with interesting bridges and great views of the marsh. There are plenty of social and game trails along the way, but the main route is well marked. When it connects back to the White Trail, keep heading south back to the entrance road to return to the parking area.
