Overview

A great race organized by Unzas.

Need to Know

Summers are really hot; you'll need a minimum of three liters of water for each half of the trail.

Description

This run starts with an easy, steady climb following the Mariposas Canyon. This canyon is commonly used by Monarch butterflies as a rest spot along their long migration to the south. During the first twelve kilometers of the trail, there are at least four creek crossings. Then you start running through a beautiful desert. The first big climb is to the antennas seen from the highway, then you cross the highway under three tunnels to enter the San Jose Creek which comes down from the Sierra Madre.

After crossing the tunnels, you run around 4 kilometers and then exit the river bed on a trail to the left (when you see a "thumb" like rock formation on the left you'll be close to the exit from the river). Then you stay on the same trail till you reach the "Puerto" when you'll start heading down toward the Paso del caballero.

Flora & Fauna

Most plants in the area will defend themselves with big sharp thorns.
