“Short hike up to the top of Rabun Bald, the 2nd tallest mountain in Georgia, with a great 360 degree view at the end!”
— Edward C
No restrictions on the trail, but there is VERY limited parking at the trailhead (4-6 cars at best). There are private driveways, so be careful to keep clear of those.
Features: Birding — Fall Colors — Spring — Views — Wildlife
Watch for loose rock in some spots. Otherwise this is a very good steady ascent.
This is a short easy hike to the top of Rabun Bald (2nd highest point in Georgia). You access this from the North Carolina side (between Scaly Mountain and Highlands). There are a few rocky spots on the way up which can ice over in the winter. At the top you can enjoy a 360-degree view. On clear days you'll be able to see a VERY long way--you'll easily spot Brasstown Bald (Highest point in Georgia) 30 miles away looking WSW.
Flora & Fauna
Various plants and animals native to north Georgia. Nothing incredibly unique from this standpoint.
