Need to Know
This is a winter race. Come prepared for variable conditions. The course has stream crossings, and you'll get wet! Wear layers and you can drop unwanted items at the Aid Stations, and these items will be returned to the finish line at the end of the race.
There are two Aid Stations on the course located at approximately mile 5 and mile 10.5.
Most of this race takes place on singletrack trails (75%). The trails are very well groomed and flow very nicely due to the shared use of bikes and horses. Creek crossings generally will be ankle/shin deep and require getting wet. The trails are open to all users, so be alert to other runners, hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. Horses do have the right of way, so please extend courtesy in slowing down as you approach and alerting a rider if you come up behind them.
History & Background
The name originates from the fact that the DuPont company arranged the sale of the original tract to the state. Portions of the forest formerly contained a manufacturing facility for the production of X-ray film.
The forest was used to shoot scenes from the 1992 film The Last of the Mohicans as well as the 2012 box office hit The Hunger Games.
