“A route through the Tall Trees Grove and along Redwood Creek Trail, all while running in the beautiful old growth forest”
— Bill Sycalik
Featured Race Oct 1, 2016
Almost the entire length of this run is in the redwood forest with two trips through the Tall Trees Grove
. These are some of the tallest and oldest trees in the park.
Features: River/Creek — Views — Wildlife
Need to Know
There are two crossings of Redwood Creek. I took my shoes off and walked across and then put them on at the other side, but if you keep your shoes on, expect soggy socks for the rest of the outing. Depth can vary by time of year.
The elevation is sneaky. It doesn't seem like much, but it adds up fast.
The run starts with a descent on the Tall Trees Trail
to the Tall Trees Grove
. Take a moment to appreciate the size of these majestic old redwoods. From there, follow the Redwood Creek Trail
to the trailhead and back. To get the full mileage, add a short out and back on Dolason Trail which provides an experience of the meadows near the redwoods. Overall, the climbing in and out of Tall Trees Grove
and on Dolason Trail adds up to more than it seems. Be ready for it.
