Bill Sycalik

Overview

This route takes you over one third of the Wonderland Trail that circumnavigates Mount Rainier.
Features: Lake — River/Creek — Views — Wildlife

Need to Know

The NPS has protected the trail from erosion going up and down from Summerland. There are a lot of stairs.

Runner Notes

It can be cold at elevation, even in the summer months. Bring warm gear.

Description

This run heads from White River Campground to Cougar Run Campground. It is all singletrack, and there is around 7,000 ft. of climbing through the route. The initial climb up to Summerland and over the pass is tough but the views are worth it. You'll run on glaciers and some snowpack even in the summer. The ups and downs from Summerland on involve a lot of stairs. The trail descends to Indian Bar and then back up for a few hundred feet. It then descends toward Maple Creek campground before setting out on a 2,000 foot climb to Reflection Lake before the final downhill toward Cougar Run.
