This route is a mix of road and trail. Badlands National Park has a lot of explorable terrain but not many established trails. This route is a combination of one of the established trails and the Badlands Loop Road. It is a great example of running in the Badlands with great views of the rock formations.

Need to Know
If you choose to go off trail be a very competent compass and topo map navigator and have a handheld GPS with you.
This is a great way to see the rock formations up close and get away from the tourist areas.
The run is generally easy. There are not many technical areas, and it is a well-marked 13.1 mile loop. Start at the Door/Window Trail
area on the Badlands Loop Road. Continue on the Castle Trail
at the Fossil Exhibit Trailhead location. Repeat. This is the safest way to get a marathon in at Badlands National Park.
Flora & Fauna
Bighorn sheep, amazing rock formations.
