“A forest run with a viewing tower and a place to stop for a nice lunch.”
— Adopt These Trails!
Needs an overview and the underlying trails mapped out.
Features: Birding — Views
From the train station at Maarn go underneath the tunnel then cross the railroad and the highway you'll then see a park with Maarn's old Townhall House. Run on the right side of the downhill (and admire its beauty) and then two blocks later make a left, and you'll find the trailhead there that will lead you into a forest.
The forest is criss-crossed with pathes, a couple of them well-marked trails. This run generally follows two of these, but not always. You can follow my route or you can follow the trails more. Up to you but the forest in nice anyway.
About 4 kms into the run, you'll find a Cafe/Restaurante in a clearing which is a good place for a nice coffee and some sandwich or pannekoek if you are hungry.
Further down the path, you'll run into a high overlooking tower. The climb up is long but well worth it as (assuming the day is clear) you'll be rewarded with views of Utrecht, Amersfoort, Wijk Wij Duurstede and more.
The run ends back up at the train station.
Flora & Fauna
Mostly forest. You can hear many birds although I didn't see many. Did not see any signs of other wildlife.
