The Castaway Island walking trail offers various points that pictures can be taken in front of the Intracoastal. Located off of San Pablo, it is a quick trip to escape civilization and experience an entirely new world! Castaway Island Preserve is located along the Intracoastal Waterway and is adjacent to an intricate salt marsh ecosystem that is ideal for spotting marshland wildlife. There are opportunities to have picnics nearby and the trail offers for a quick tour of what North East Florida has to offer. Along the trail, there are signs that give information about the wildlife in the region and on top of the trail lay manmade footprints of animals that live in the area. Visitors may stroll along the Preserve’s wooden boardwalk, take in a view from an observation platform overlooking the waterway, walk along the kid friendly interpretive nature trail, use the kayak launch to explore the marsh, and explore the theater style education center during scheduled programs. The trail is overall shaded which makes the hike all-the-more easier.
