Runner Notes

This would be a great addition to a longer run in the area.

Description

This route is the most well-traveled way to reach the summit of Bison Peak. The route is less of a trail, and more of a suggestion, but the open terrain and easily visible summit make for simple navigation and negotiation.

The best way to access this trail is via the Brookside McCurdy Trail, which can be taken from one of its termini, or by taking the Ute Creek Trail #629. At less than a mile each way, the route won't be the most strenuous part of your journey, but it will be the most jaw dropping. Enjoy the sweeping views and incredible solitude from the trail.

We found a little water below the large monument rock at 5.3 miles but don’t count on this in the summer.
