Description

To get to the trailhead turn left off Mitchell Hill Road onto Holsclaw Hill Road. At the top of the winding, steep road, take a right onto the service road. Go all the way down to the campground parking lot.

To start, follow the trail towards the outhouses near the edge of the woods. Past the gate take an immediate right and follow the signs for the Red Trail. From there you'll go down back up several times on the Red Trail and Orange Trail, before heading back across the campground and to the other side of the parking lot to start the Siltstone Trail. This goes by the JMF Welcome Center before taking you on a grueling series of ups and downs. Eventually you'll meet up with the Purple Heart Trail and head back. But be careful! The Purple Heart follows a dry creek bed and is 90% rocks and 10% roots. Take your time, and you'll be rewarded with a beautiful view of the man-made lake.
