The trail conditions are generally pretty good aside from the social trails up and down Cerro de Calavera. These social trails are pretty steep, rugged, and close to the edge of a cliff. There are a few other dicey spots where trail erosion makes the going a bit difficult. Also, soil here is a nightmare after a rain. It's like walking through half-frozen pudding.
Going counterclockwise, starting at the park off Lake Blvd, the trails are well established dirt trails with walkways over native wetlands. After passing the dam you are on the return path that follows the far side of the ancient volcano until returning to the starting point at the park.
You also have the opportunity to climb the volcano ridge with steep drop-offs. There are many different trails to be utilized.
