Overview

Entrance gate closes at dark (hours vary throughout the year-- check the park's website). The park curfew is 10pm-5pm.
Coyote Hills Regional Park is a unique and beautiful park in the Bay area. The hills are relatively low, and right up against the Bay. These physical features afford wonderful up-close views of the SF Bay from above. You get the feel of running through the hills, yet the elevation change is minimal, so this run is very accessible to all fitness levels.

Description

This route will be described counterclockwise, but certainly can be done in either direction. Quarry Staging Area is the closest parking lot, where there are picnic tables, water fountains, and a pit toilet. Start this route by heading North on the Bayview Trail. Cross Patterson Ranch Road, and head left. Continue along the Bayview trail with the road on your left and the marsh on your right, which is usually full of seasonal water fowl and shorebirds. Look for the trailmarker for the Chochenyo Trail, where you'll want to turn right. The Chochenyo Trail passes through the middle of the marsh for .22 miles before you hit the next set of trail junctions. Go left on the Lizard rock trail. After .23 miles you'll rejoin the Bayview Trail. Turn right. From here you'll stay on the Bayview Trail for the next 1.3 miles and will pass around the northernmost of the Coyote Hills. You'll also transition from views east toward Mission Peak to views west looking down at the San Francisco Bay. Bear left to go uphill when you get to the Soaproot Trail. Take this trail up over one of the hills, then wind down back to the Quail Trail. Turn right (south) on the Quail Trail and follow for .1 mile. You'll then rejoin the Bayview trail once again and make a left. Follow the Bayview Trail with an interesting rock outcrop on your left and marsh on your right. In about .25 miles you'll return to your starting point.
