Need to Know
While the Marcus Trail is a bit remote to be a good run on its own, in combination with the
Bush Mountain Trail or
Tejas Trail it can be part of a nice loop for a long day run or multi-day outing.
Description
Depending on which direction you are running, Marcus Trail is either a steady climb (north to south) or steady descent (south to north). There are a few sections with steeper grades and rocky footing, but the trail is generally easy to follow although the terrain may slow you down a bit in spots.
When running from north to south (as mapped), the first mile is an easy run through fairly open terrain. After the first mile, the trail climbs a small hill with a couple winding turns before continuing south. The terrain is still pretty open and exposed, and can be hot on a sunny day.
Just past the 2-mile mark, the trail levels out again, and from here, the running is quite easy until the trail ends at a junction with the
Blue Ridge Trail.
