Description

This is a wonderful little run. It starts from a parking area off the Cosby Campground Road. This area can lead to the Lower Mount Cammerer Trail, but the Cosby Nature Trail is a self-contained trail. It's starts off nice and easy - and really is a pretty easy run throughout. However, there are a few stream crossings - one that can be a little slippery if wet. There is also one spot near the end where you cross the river on rocks. If that isn't to your liking, follow the river downstream a bit, and you'll find the very first bridge you crossed. It isn't deep, but the swiftness will depend on recent rainfall. We have done this run a few times with young kids, and they do well.

The trail allows you a very easy run and natural look at the forest. With the river running nearby, there are many beautiful sights. There is one little spot, about halfway in, that has a little rocky "beach" along the river that is perfect for and rest and a snack for little ones.

The trail guide is kind of cheesy. Last year, the day we left, the entire area was closed due to massive floods from the river that runs next to the trail. The ranger said it is totally different this year than ever before. I don't know what it was like last year, but the Cosby Nature Trail is a beautiful run in the Smokies.
