Discrete Peak Series

Overview

This racecourse features a brutal climb to the top of Mount Crested Butte followed by a quad-pounding descent!

Description

This 9.8-mile course with 2,920 ft of climbing begins at the base of Mount Crested Butte. Runners will convene at the starting line, located in the main village square, just outside of Flatiron Sports. From there, runners will race to the bottom of the Silver Queen Ski Lift, where they will begin running up the singletrack, Lower Westside trail. Through the wildflowers, aspens, and dark timber, runners will enjoy beautiful views of Wetstone Mountain, Gothic Mountain, and Snodgrass Mountain until they reach the Silver Queen road.

This 3.8-mile stretch will take runners to the top of the Silver Queen lift where they will meet up with the Summit Trail. The first section of the Summit Trail climbs fairly steep terrain to the summit, and crosses loose and broken rock. The trail to the peak is 1.3 miles with a vertical gain of 677 ft.

Once runners have reached the summit its a dash back down the mountain to the top of the Paradise lift. Once runners have reached the top of the paradise lift they will face a steep descent until again connecting with the Silver Queen road.

The Silver Queen road will take runners to the Upper West Side trail where they will reach the top of the Red Lady lift. From the Red Lady lift runners will have a chance to open it up on Red Lady road before connecting with the Up and Away trail to the finish line.
