Description

Brissey Ridge is mostly down hill, but the first 0.6 miles can be technical in places. The Brissey Ridge/Pipsissewa section is great for people with "first mile, worst mile" syndrome. This section makes it easy to click into a groove.

Once the run reaches North Lake, things get a little hairy. The trail is close to the water and extremely rooty. It's generally flat, though, and the lake and mountain landscape is beautiful. At ~ mile 2.0, you'll reach the dam. A small grate marks the beginning of it. The dam is flat singletrack. After the dam, more roots and rocks - - finding a flat piece of dirt is a challenge. As the trail moves away from the lake, the trail becomes soft dirt and gently rolling hills. There is one stream crossing which can be easily jumped.

Before the intersection with Kanuga, the trail begins to climb slightly. The run turns right on Kanuga. From miles ~ 2.8 to 3.8, the run becomes a challenge, and for many runners, a hike/run.

At the top of Kanuga, the course turns right on the Firetower Connector and then left on Firetower. Firetower ends when Sulphur Springs intersects with it from the right. The course follows Sulphur Springs back to the parking lot. The Firetower/Sulphur Springs section is a welcome relief. It's mostly downhill, with some technical areas, but after the lake, these will seem easy.
