This is the loop course for the Planet Adventure Summer (and Winter) Night Trail Marathon. It is a mostly singletrack course that winds through the park. There are a couple small sections of paved/gravel path along with some decent climbs. A nice section is across the lake with great views of nature. It is especially nice at night with a full moon.
Need to Know
Cost to enter park is $6 per car.
The race loop starts from the parking lot off Eagle Beach drive. The first section follow the red trail north all the way around the Bird Sanctuary. From here, the marathon loop does not follow the colored trails.
The first section (red trails) is singletrack until you get to the bird sanctuary where is turns into a wider gravel path. On the north side of the lake, it is a much wider road. The course follows the road east to the paved trail that heads up to the Ornithology Center. From here is is all singletrack with a couple road crossings.
The trail is easy dirt with a few sections that have some roots and rocks. Trail shoes are not required to run this course during normal conditions. During wet conditions, there is not a lot of mud, but enough slick areas that trail shoes would provide a better run.
