Race #1 in the XTERRA SoCal Series. This race take place in September on the trails of Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park in Laguna Niguel. The race starts at the ranger station, continues down Aliso Creek and then up Wood Canyon for some amazing climbs and descents.

There are a couple of creek crossings which may be dry by September.
This is the 16k course, there is also an 11k option. From the ranger station take Aliso Creek Trail
for 1.5 miles. Turn north (right) onto Wood Canyon Trail
for a little less than a mile. Turn west (left) onto Mathis Canyon Trail
. About 100 yards in, go right at the fork and get ready to climb. This is a relentless climb for over a mile until you pop out on West Ridge Trail
. Turn north (right) and run downhill for a 1.5 miles. Turn east (right) on Cholla Trail
. Watch your footing. This winding downhill is the most treacherous part of the course. Turn south (right) on Wood Canyon Trail
and follow it all the way back to Aliso Creek Trail
. Follow Aliso Creek Trail
back to the starting point.
Trailhead: Exit the I-5 at Alicia Parkway. Go Southwest for 9.7 miles. Turn right onto Awma Rd. The parking area is just across the bridge. Parking Fee: $3 daily. Machine accepts $1 bills and quarters or Visa/Master Card. Annual passes available to purchase in the park office. The parking lot closes at sunset.
