“Paved path from Bethesda to Washington DC.”
— Grant Dong
The trailhead at Bethesda starts near Georgetown Cupcake, after the Georgetown Branch Trail
ends. The trail runs south towards the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath
. It crosses several highways with bridges and a few roads. After it crosses the bridge to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath
, it runs uninterrupted all the way into DC.
There is lots of shade on the trail and is often within sight of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath
, although they run on different paths. This trail is fully paved and can handle road bikes, the C&O is all natural surface.
It is often used on the nicer days for commuting and is especially crowded on the first nice days of spring.
There are a number of rest stops along the way.
