Description

From Albuquerque, go east on I-40 to NM 14. Go left on NM 14 for 6 miles to Sandia Crest turnoff on NM 536. Go 11.6 miles to the 10 K trailhead sign. There are signs and parking lots on both sides of the road, use the parking lot on the right. The trailhead is at the end of the parking lot.

This is a moderate trail traversing the eastern side of the Sandia Mountains under the shade of alpine forests. The trail is named 10K because it roughly follows the 10K foot elevation line. Starting at the intersection with South Crest Trail #130 and Tree Spring Trail #147, 10K crosses multiple secondary trails and passes through the Sandia Peak ski area. The trail is used as a cross country ski route in the winter and is well marked with blue diamonds.
