There is not quite anything else like running on the island and mingling with the Buffalo. Sometimes they are on the trail or cross over trails in various places when traversing the island

Need to Know
No natural shade so have sunblock. $10 to get on the island, carpooling is best and cheaper. Only 15 minutes to civilization, bathrooms at campgrounds, no potable water
Split Rock Loop Trail is the most technical portion of this run, most of the elevation is gained here and fairly rocky. Can be run in reverse. Elephant Head Trail
is a 3 mile out and back for extra mileage.
This is a popular 50 miler, especially among locals. The first 18 miles utilize White Rock Loop
, Elephant Head Trail
, and Split Rock Loop Trail
. They are the most technical portions of the run and offer some great opportunities for photos.
You then head up the road and cross over to the eastern side of the island for 24 miles of mostly flat terrain heading to Garr Ranch. Eventually you'll turn around and head back the way you came. After getting back to the fence line, run west, back up the road and follow it out to Lakeside Trailhead to complete the final portion of the run to White Rock Bay.
Flora & Fauna
Buffalo, Antelope, Deer, and Coyotes make up most of the wildlife seen on the island.
