Description

The Grandview Trail is one of the best of the non-maintained trails in the Park, but it's steep and requires caution. The upper parts of the trail are held together by old logs and steel rods put in place during the days of the Last Chance Mine. Some sections are filled in with cobbles, which help to keep the trail level. It's rocky and strenuous. Please give uphill runners the right of way.

Located on the South Rim, access is by vehicle to Grandview Point, 12 miles east of the village along the Desert View Drive. The trail begins on the canyon side of a retaining wall at Grandview Point. Trailhead Elevation: 7,400 feet.

The Grandview Trail day runs are to Coconino Saddle or Horseshoe Mesa. This trail follows the western side of a ridge, heads north, and descends to Horseshoe Mesa. Running as far as Horseshoe Mesa is not recommended during summer. This trail gets steeper and more tricky beyond Coconino Saddle. Trail conditions are tougher than the Bright Angel and South Kaibab trails.
