Update

Out-and-back doubletrack dirt road race - all above 10,000'.

Tom Robson

Overview

There is a 8.5-hour total time limit, and an aid station cut-off at 1:45 PM at Resurrection inbound (Aid B).
Race through historic mining towns on old mining roads, and top out on Mosquito Pass (13,185'). The view from the top will take your breath away, if the running hasn't already...
Features: Views — Wildflowers — Wildlife
Dogs: Off-leash

Need to Know

Be wary of traffic both going up and coming down Mosquito Pass. Speeds are understandably high for runners coming down the pass and the dirt road is very narrow in spots.

Additionally, you may be crossing snow on the course. For safety, the course will be well marked with fluorescent pink-and-black-striped ribbon and chalk arrows.

Runner Notes

Aid Stations:
  • Mile 2.9
  • Mile 4.4
  • Mile 7.7
  • Mile 11
  • Mile 12.5

Race start is at 8:00AM.

Description

The course is an out-and-back through the historic mining district east of Leadville and starts from the Sixth Street Gym. At the gun, head east-northeast on 6th St. until it intersects with Trail Rd., turn right here, then immediately left onto dirt - this is your brutal reality for the next ~14.5mi!

Continue east on County Rd. 1, which allows you to gain the first real climb of the race. Along this road you'll see dilapidated mining equipment, and evidence of Leadville's mining past. Once at the top of this climb you'll have reached the first aid station - Aid A 1/2.

From Aid A 1/2, bear left onto County Rd. 38A. From here you'll be descending for a decent amount of time - enjoy it while it lasts! Turn left, right, then a quick left onto County Rd. 3B. This road is your last descent until the Mosquito Pass turn around...

From County Rd. 3B turn right onto County Rd. 3. After ~.7mi on this road (mile 4.4), you'll encounter your second aid station - Aid B. After Aid B, continue west and bear left at an intersection with County Rd. 3D. Wind your way north, following County Rd. 3, then turn right at an intersection with County Rd. 3E to stay on County Rd. 3. Eventually, County Rd. 3 will take you all the way to the race's highpoint - Mosquito Pass (13,185') - as well as Aid C.

After you've soaked up the views of Mount Massive (14,421') and Mount Elbert (14,433') catch your breath, head back down exactly the way you came, and finish this epic race!
