Hell of a January day!

We're used to wild weather swings in CO, but we don't get many 70 degree sunny days in January! After several weeks of dreary, cold, and cloudy weather, we got a warm spell that nuked the stale dirty snow in just a few days. Contemplating what to do... I was worried that the popular trails would have inches of compacted ice. I remember someone mentioning a new trail near my house, and thinking it was opened but unannounced - perfect - that should reduce the ice compaction!

I headed up the hill to the new trailhead, didn't see any signs, but there was indeed a brand new spiffy trail. I followed it up for a few glorious miles to the top of Mount Sanitas, joined the throngs of hikers that come up the traditional path, and enjoyed the view for a few moments before heading back the way I came.

Between the weather and spectacular new trail, it was a great day!
