The trail briefly enters a mowed area next to Lake Yahola. To the right is the dike portion coming from Mohawk Boulevard. To the left the trail goes down off the dike and heads north.

Coastal Protection cannon used during the Civil War.  This cannon was presented to the mayor of Newton for placement in the park.  The park was rededicated from "East Park" to Military Park Oct 4th, 1899.
