After the Run: Local Favorites

OTTO The pizza and salads are delicious. I continue to struggle with the general attitude of "too cool" to serve you that Jonathan's restaurant's consistently serve up.
Simon's Marketplace Awesome service & sandwiches. Has a nice bar like seating that faces Main Street
17 Main St, Chester CT — (860) 526-8984
Marley's Service is a little slow but the food is good and so much fun to take the ferry there!
Olive Oyl's Fresh, gourmet foods at an awesome price. Fresh ground espresso and artisanal rarities make this a unique food destination in the idyllic riverside village of Essex.
77 Main St, Essex CT — (860) 767-4909
The Griswold Inn This is the oldest continuously-run tavern in the US. Founded in the late 1700s, it has been under the stewardship of only 6 families & during Prohibition local yachtsmen came for the entertainment.
36 Main St, Essex CT — (860) 767-1776
Whistle Stop Cafe watch out for Austin's Wrangler omelette... Sooo good, but the horseradish cheese is not for the faint of heart!
Deep River Pizza taco pizza is epic, by far all their pizzas are some of the best ive had in CT or anywhere, likely biases to their amazing crusts and side dishes.
160 Main St, Deep River CT — (860) 526-1348
Cloud Nine Catering and Deli The white chocolate brownies and 7 layer bars are to die for (but save those until after lunch). Get a 1/2 soup 1/2 sandwich and you'll get the best of both worlds.
Som Siam East This is a great restaurant. I definitely recommend it!
Mystic Market Their sandwiches are fabulous. Will definitely be back to try their soups and cold salads.
Pizza Works Get a wheel of foccacia with marinara sauce
Ivoryton Tavern Cafe The burgers are HUGE!! They also have delicious quesadillas :)
Two Wrasslin Cats fantastic food, coffee and staff!
374 Town St, East Haddam CT — (860) 891-8446
Jack Rabbit's Try the New Yorker dog... outstanding.
254 Main St, Old Saybrook CT — (860) 510-0048
Gelston House Fabulous food and service. Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend this place
8 Main St, East Haddam CT — (866) 497-6150
TJ's Restaurant & Pizza Steak and cheese grinder is awesome
Saybrook Soup & Sandwich Co. I've only had one thing here, the BLT. Very good. Maybe a little pricey but a good lunch.
Rustic Cafe Unless your a townie looking for your buzz before the trip back to the wife -- I suggest coming here for lunch (especially in the summer)! It's a surprising little gem tucked away on Route 1.
Pasta Vita Chicken piccata and shepherds pie are the two best meals here. Go for the bread pudding if you're feeling the extra sweet tooth!
225 Elm St, Old Saybrook CT — (860) 395-1452
