During the winter months the access road (FR 99) to the trail is inaccessible by car because of the snow. During other months the road is relatively easy to pass as long as you have a vehicle that can handle mud and uneven dirt roads.

Overview

The New Boston Trail takes you up into the site of the original Chittenden Town settlement, New Boston. The trail has a gradual climb that takes you through beautiful new growth woods to a junction with the Long Trail and the David Logan Shelter.

Need to Know

After your run, stop at the Mountain Top Inn & Resort for some appetizers and a beer as well as great views of the Chittenden Reservoir.

Description

The New Boston Trail trailhead is located just off FR 99 after a clearing where you are able to park your car. The trail begins by following an old woods road gradually up the mountain that forks at 0.75 miles. At the fork take a left up the wooded trail.

The trail goes straight and climbs steadily to David Logan Shelter at 1.0 miles. Just above the shelter the trail passes a piped spring on the left and then reaches the Long Trail at 1.2 miles if you wish to go a bit further. Follow back the way you came to finish the run.
