The Allenford trail branches off an intersection of several trails, notably the Whoop de Doos trail and several short connectors. After a small stream crossing, the trail heads up into a hill with a steep climb and hard cutback. This early section is not only steep, but has a rocky surface and is flanked by even steeper drop-offs.

Soon after this, the trail takes on a different character, leveling out for a time and then utilizing smoother slopes. Along this path, runners pass views of the Patapsco Valley below and open fields to the west.
