The time limit is 52 hours. The path is 106 miles, 172 km long with a total of 24,146 feet (7,360 meters) elevation gain. On the path are 14 refreshments points, with two drop-off stations. The trail is marked with flags, tapes, and direction signs.

Overview

The 100-mile route is named after strong man called Krpan. He could lift his horse and he was a smuggler. So anyone brave enough to take on a 100-mile trail is worthy enough to be a real man or a woman.

With 100 mile length and a 24,146 feet (7360 meter) gain of elevation, this trail run is demanding, but still worth it for all the views from Snežnik, Vremščica, Nanos, where you can see from the alps to the Adriatic sea. Some ascents and descents are steep, while others are much easier.

Overall this is a run not to be missed.

Runner Notes

Some self autonomy is required, but with 14 refreshment points and two drop-off stations, where you can change your clothes, shoes, etc... this trail race offers a unique experience and some fun along the way.

Description

The start of the trail is in the tourist camp Pivka jama near Postojna. The trail leads us to our first major climb Veliki Javornik (4160 feet or 1,268 meters). The descent is very steep, but you are rewarded when the trail reaches Cerknica lake, Europe's largest intermittent lake.

You run along some plains then the second hill begins on Slivnica (3,655 feet, 1,114 meters). Head along Bloke plateau with many ups and downs and reach the Križna gora (2,870 feet, 875 meters). From there, you can see your path behind and continue through the forest to the highest peak, Veliki Snežnik (5,892 feet, 1,796 meters). The views here stretch all the way to the Adriatic Sea.

From Veliki Snežnik, you'll descend and then climb shortly, before continuing on through forests, villages, and unforgettable paths up to the Vremščica (3369 feet, 1027 meters). Reaching the town of Razdrto, you'll began to climb to Nanos ( 4,068 feet, 1,240 meters). From here, the trail slowly begins to approach the finish.

From Nanos, you can see to the left the path you need to conquer before the finish. The descent is nothing but fun for every trail runner. Slowly, when we reach the last peak, Lovrenc (3,343 feet, 1,019 meters), the end of the journey is near; there is just a small downhill and before you can say SLO100 100 MILES, you have reached our goal, Pivka jama.

History & Background

As I mentioned before, the majority of this route was used by a strong man named Krpan, who smuggled salt and other goods from Italy back to his homeland.
