The ascent to Pico da Bandeira can be divided into two parts: the first from Tronqueira to Terreirão and the second from Terreirão to the summit.

The trail is well traveled for most of the course, with the exception of the several sections under rocks, which may confuse the less experienced, especially at night. Overall, it is a well-marked trail.

From Tronqueira to Terreirão, the trail is always near the José Pedro River, except in only two points there is the "meeting". These two points are marked as "Water" on the track. In Terreirão, there is a water spout; from there up, there is no more reliable water along the trail.

The ascent after the Terreirão begins with many steps. The next stretch is on smooth rock, and you'll run by a plateau with a low slope. After the plateau, there is a steep ascent, and the trail climbs to the summit.
