This trail is difficult to access or non-accessible in winter months.
Runner Notes
The trail is runnable for most of the length, however the overgrowth combined with the numerous fallen trees blocking the path make for a challenge. The trail is generally cleared by horse packers in the early to mid-summer, so the trail may be more easily run in the later summer or fall.
Description
The Red Cap Hole Trail is a singletrack dirt path that travels through recently partially burned old-growth forest in the western Trinity Alps, east of Hoopa. The trail passes through a diverse mix of plants and trees, including many kinds of fruits and berries. A short spur off the main trail leads to Lower Mill Creek Lake--a 5-acre lake located at 5,900 feet, with fishing opportunities and two semi-developed campsites.
