Description
The Upper Wildcat
Canyon Trail is a continuation of the
Wildcat Loop Trail in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. From the farm, follow the the
Wildcat Loop Trail to the left and ascend into the woods for roughly 3/4 of a mile. Here, the
Wildcat Loop Trail breaks off to the right while the Upper Wildcat
Canyon Trail continues straight ahead. The trail ascends gently through the woods, following the creek which runs on the left side of the trail. As you continue to climb, the creek drops into the valley as the trail climbs along the ridge line. At roughly .7 miles, the trail cuts back and climbs higher along the ridge. Views of the surrounding hills, and the PG & E Trail start to appear on the right hand side of the trail. At 1.3 miles, the trail intersects with the
Upper High Meadow Trail
Flora & Fauna
Wild turkeys and other birds can be seen in the woods and along the top of the ridges. Rabbits can be seen along the trail as well, especially in the evenings. Salamanders and other lizards can be seen and heard scurrying along the side of the trail.
